The Spanish Wild West

As crazy as it might sound. There is no better place to experience the Wild West than in Tabernas, Spain.

At this spot more than 30 Western Movies where filmed.

Spain has a long tradition of producing quality films that have been exported worldwide. The first major film was made by director/producer Luis Buñuel in 1927, but it wasn't until the 1960s that movies became big business in Spain. This period saw several notable directors such as Sergio Leone.

During this time many famous westerns were shot at this location, however in recent years we have seen less emphasis placed upon these particular genres so now only occasionally do we see movies being made here.

Desierto de Tabernas is located in the province of Almeria in Spain, between the towns of Almeria and Tabernas. The desert town sits on a narrow strip of land between Mediterranean Sea and mountain ranges. This area has some great hiking trails, it provides an escape from city life for those who want to get away from it all.

Its proximity to the Costa del Sol and its easy access to Madrid make it ideal for those who want to spend some time in this beautiful country side.

The climate here is hot and dry during summer months (July through September). However, there are still plenty of things to do during these months; you can go swimming at one if not many beaches nearby or explore caves that were formed by lava flows millions years ago!
